A Day in the Life of an Immortal

By B.M. Garrett

On the planet of Xenos Major, it had been a very long few weeks for two individual beings.

The planet had been known to the late inhabitants as the pearl of the universe. It was famed for its lush forests, green rolling hills and for containing the most delicious fruits, vegetables and potent herbs in the universe.

Travelers used to come across the galaxy just to pick from the plentiful fields. A virtually unspoiled planet that was not surprisingly, overpopulated by all species throughout the cosmos.

All who lived on this planet lived in peace and had the equal intentions of the pursuit of happiness.

This was not a planet of technologically built cities, but one of old fashioned living establishments. No bustling metropolises, just large communities of people living in harmony with the planet. There was only a few spaceports spread throughout the planet and even they were humbled in technology. It was a paradise rich in culture and strong in morals.

Alas, one of the most beautiful planets known in existence had gone from perfect weather all year round, to total darkness. An evil presence had touched down upon the planet, covering its skies with a blanket of negativity that blocked out the sun. The Darkstar had disturbed the natural positive energy that flowed throughout the planet, causing the planet to send out a beacon of distress to its defender.

Without protection, the inhabitants were left to suffer under the control of the Darkstar. None were able to leave the planet. Within hours, all life died from the presence of the grievous intruder. A plague of darkness had swept through their very souls of the living, causing them to die an agonizing death.

The planet itself was dying slowly as well. But not long after, the call of help had been answered by two from the Order of Light. One had perished a few days into the epic battle. Now only two beings remained on the planet. One Born of the Darkness and one Born from the Sun. For weeks they battled each other, the planet their playground.

Indeed it had been a very long few weeks, but soon it would all come to an end.

In the middle of the chaos and destruction, the sky flashed lightening while the thunder rumbled, echoing through the valley. Two exhausted beings hovered hundreds of feet in the air, squaring off against each other. They stared deeply into each other, neither one blinking. One with eyes as cold as the snow on the mountain ranges that surrounded them. The other, eyes of justice and peace, calm within the chaotic storm that surrounded her.

Neither one moved.

Deep within the bodies of them both, a furnace raged on. One fueled by pure anger, hatred and malice. All the elements expected of one so evil. The other motivated by her love for the living and the continued peace and serenity that would resume if she was victorious today. She would see this evil entity who was before her wiped from the universe as she made her last stand in this very valley.

The Darkstar closed her eyes and focused her withering energy. She was exhausted from the weeks of ongoing battles. She knew in her mind that one of them would not leave this mountain range alive. Quickly, from under her scorched robes, her right arm extended forward as she reached out past the Daystar with all her might. The mountain behind the Daystar broke off from the base in an instant and was hurled towards the Daystar’s backside at great speed.

The Darkstar pulled in the mountain with all of her will and watched it as it came up fast behind her enemy. A slight smile appeared upon her face and a bead of sweat rolled down into her eye. She blinked it out. The Darkstar did not know whether her opponent was either caught by surprise or that she was just too exhausted to dodge the attack for the mountain had hit its mark as it crashed into the Daystar with devastating force.

The Darkstar felt a rise of victorious energy surge through her body. With the rest of her energy, she made a spreading motion with her hands, parting the cloud of debris that was left from the impact. Her eyes went wide with shock.

The Daystar hovered in the same spot, unmoved and unharmed, still staring deeply into the eyes of her Darkstar enemy. She then brushed the leftover debris off her armored shoulders and rolled her neck as if preparing for her turn.

This sent a wave of raw emotion through the Darkstar that pushed her over the edge into the area of reckless behavior. She was absolutely furious that a young Daystar mocked her in such a manner. She drew her weapon from her belt and both sides of it ignited with dark energy blades, the handle extending itself outward in both directions lengthening the weapon’s reach.

She made her last charge at her enemy with a force of unimaginable hate pushing her on.

The Daystar did not move. She waited for her moment. The Darkstar came closing in quickly, weapon drawn. As soon as the Darkstar came within reach, the Daystar ignited her spear.

As the Darkstar brought her double-bladed lance in for a piercing thrust at the Daystar’s chest, it was met by an upward parry from the spear of the wielder with such an unbelievable force that it knocked the lance out of the Darkstar’s hands, sending it flying skyward into the clouds.

The Darkstar reached up towards the sky to try to call the weapon back to her, but as her arm came up, she noticed she was missing her hand.

The Daystar moved quickly around her opponent, and with her right arm she reached around the Darkstar’s waist and pulled her in close to her body, and with her other arm wielding the weapon horizontally, she leveled the spear’s blade steadily under the chin of the Darkstar.

With her lips now close to the Darkstar’s ear, she whispered, “For my master.”

In that moment she pulled at the waist of the Darkstar, spinning her around and at the same time she slid her blade across the neck of the Darkstar, severing her head.

As the body continued to spin forward in one direction before falling and the head flung out in another, the Daystar drew deep within herself and conjured up a massive amount of energy. With her unarmed hand she gathered energy into her palm. As the lifeless body fell towards the planet she released the full force of the energy blast in its direction.

The last thing the Darkstar saw was her body falling parallel to her only to bear witness as her body became engulfed by a massive energy beam, disintegrating the lifeless body.

From space, you could see the flash of bright light that was the initial impact of the beam hitting the surface of the planet. A few seconds later, the beam pushed through the opposite side of the planet and trailed off into space, finally dissipating into nothing.

The Daystar, hovering above, looked down into the massive hole the bore all the way through the planet. She was breathing heavily and sweat was dripping from her face. She hovered a moment trying to calm herself. Eyes closed, she began quieting her mind.

After reflecting upon the cosmos through still meditation, her feet gently touched the surface of the planet again. The skies overhead became clear and the dead lands once again became green. The water became unfrozen and the planetary vegetation began to flourish once more. The planet was in the process of healing itself through the Daystar’s presence.

Slowly she began walking, her robes suddenly appearing from nothingness wrapped around her body armor while her hood formed over her head, concealing her face.

After a brief moment of walking, she came upon what she was looking for. Reaching out with her hand, the object lifted off the ground and floated out in front of her. She rotated it around and pondered it. It was the head of her slain enemy. The face had froze with a look of horror, eyes wide and mouth gaped open. With a wave of her hand, the severed head burst into flames and burned up into nothingness.

At the moment, she was too tired to fly back to her ship. She decided to walk and relish in her victory as the planet drew upon her energy in order to rejuvenate itself and all planetary life . Carefree she strolled through the brightened forest. Everything was coming back to life. Since this was her home planet, she had the power to resurrect the dead to a certain extent.

The forest began teeming with animal and insect life again. As she walked along a narrow trail, the animals of the forest began coming out of the shadows to get a glimpse of the Daystar. As she passed them, they all began lowering themselves as to show gratitude and pay their respects to the planet’s savior.

This was her home world and she was its defender, its champion. She had vanquished the great menace that sent out the cosmic challenge to her by attacking her planet and although she could not resurrect the recent inhabitants, she knew that new inhabitants would come from all over the universe to re-colonize the planet.

For hours she walked until she came upon her Celestial ship. The planet all around was singing her praises. Soon, everything would be back to normal as the hole in the planet caused by her would heal up and all the devastation done by the unwanted intruder would be reversed and forgotten.

The planet would once again become the pearl of the universe. Forever protected by one of the greatest Daystars ever.

Aboard the ship she sat in contemplation. At the controls, she punched at some symbols upon the screen and the ship lifted off, rocketing away from the planet. Her heart ached with loss but she dealt with her emotions to the best of her ability with the training she received.

It was a long voyage back that would give her enough time to fall into deep meditation to heal her wounds, face her emotions and better herself overall. The rest of the trip would be spent honoring the memory of her fallen master. Her master was a great Eternal that she would never forget.

As space opened up to her view port, she punched in some coordinates and prepared for her ship to make a cosmic jump to another quadrant of the galaxy. Before jumping, she called out for the UKAIS sphere.

“Welcome back ma’am,” called out its smooth metallic voice, the humming it emitted gave calm to the Daystar.

“Thanks,” she muttered. “Prepare to log the following voice message.”

The UKAIS sphere acknowledged with a series of beeps.

Lady Fury has been defeated by me,” she took in a deep breath. “My father, Eternal Noble perished three days into the battle. My birth world has been reclaimed. It is now safe for the moment.”

The transmission ended.

“Prepare for jump UKAIS,” she called out.

After a long and strenuous battle, the Sage Hope was returning back to a universe at war.
