War and peace

For hundreds of Cosmic Years, the Ith’al species had shared a neighboring cluster of solar systems with their long term rivals, the Kryllonians. Both had lived in relative peace. Before there was peace between the two civilizations, there was war. During a span of three thousand CY’s, the Ith’al and the Kryllonians had fought dozens of wars and skirmishes for control of the outlying systems. The planets they sought after were rich in the much needed resources that both species consumed.

Both species were well versed in the art of war and were both technologically advanced civilizations. Equally matched, neither race could gain an edge over the other. After thousands of CY’s of warring and depleted resources, a long overdue treaty was produced. Neither side believed that the truce would last long, but there was really no choice. The agreement was made that the systems would be split in an equal manner.

Now after hundreds of CY’s of relative peace with only minor conflicts, the treaty would be broken.

On an uneventful day, an Ith’al mining facility on the planet Bispul had not sent in their hourly reports to a nearby outpost space station monitoring the facility. The mining facility was on the edge of Ith’al space and hourly reports were vital for economic purposes. After multiple missed check-ins, the outpost confirmed that the mining facility’s communications had gone dark. The outpost station dispatched a war class capital ship to investigate the disturbance with the facility. A few minutes after the capital ship entered Bispul’s orbit, the captain had sent a distressing and inaudible transmission back to the outpost. Only one word was discernible in the garbled transmission, Invasion.
